| Frequently Asked Questions - Solar Hot Water |
Can Solar meet all my water heating needs? Technically, yes. Practically, no. The sun does not shine every day. In Alabama, the sun shines about 60% of the available time, less in winter months than in the summer. (That is plenty!) While we could have a very large storage tank that would permit us to coast through the shady days, it is more practical to use conventional energy sources to "back-up" our solar collector and heat water when solar is not available. A properly sized system will meet about 85% of your hot water demand. All cost saving estimates are based on these assumptions. |
