    What about that federal tax incentive?


    As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (the stimulus bill), all residents in the US can
    participate in a Federal Tax Incentive for renewable energy.  Your new solar water heating system will qualify for
    a 30% tax credit with no cap.  You can roll any unused credit to the next year - all the way to the year 2016.  In
    other words, if you pay $8,000 for your system, you will get a tax credit of $2,400.  After the credit, your system
    only costs you $5,600.

    By the time you consider the increase in your home's value, you will be ahead from the day you have your
    system installed.
